The type of personal information I collect

I currently collect and process the following information:

  • Personal identifiers, contacts and characteristics (for example, name and contact details) for marketing purposes
  • Personal information about your life, or another’s life, provided by you or another person to enable the writing and delivery of ceremony scripts
  • Testimonials and photos of ceremonies for marketing purposes

How I get the personal information and why I have it

Most of the personal information I process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • To enable the writing and delivery of ceremony scripts
  • To enable marketing activities with your prior permission

I also receive personal information indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:

  • Family or friends who want to provide information to form part of a ceremony with your prior permission
  • Third party suppliers such as wedding planners and funeral directors when they are acting on your behalf with your prior permission

I use the information that you have given me in order to write and deliver ceremony scripts for weddings, vow renewals, namings, funerals and other ceremony types on request. Additionally information may be used for marketing purposes with your permission.

I may share this information with Humanists UK for conducting peer reviews, in the event that I am not able to perform your ceremony and arrange for another celebrant to conduct the ceremony on my behalf, or in the event of a complaint.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases I rely on for processing this information are:

Under data protection law, you have rights including:
Your right of access – You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.
Your right to erasure – You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.
Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
Your right to object to processing – You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.
You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, I have one month to respond to you.
